News of the jobs lost in the US this year left me disappointed in corporate America, although not surprised. Even (sporadically) charming entrepeneurs like Nick Denton are falling into line and cutting staff from healthy organizations, as if employee layoffs were panacea and prophylactic all in one.
Look, folks: our economy is in tough shape. We need something new to build around. We need innovation. Innovation can make an enterprise prosper even during the worst of recessions, and innovation is the engine that can take the entire country out of this recession once and for all. But innovation begins with people. Like the 500,000 people who lost jobs in November.
