I thought the Spore Creature Creator was a bore, but the actual game is materializing in stores tomorrow, September 7th. I’m looking forward to it, so much so that I went to see about purchasing a copy via the Spore web site. Sure enough, I found a page telling me that…
“Spore is available for order. You can pre-load the PC version in advance, and it will activate on September 7th. This way you can save time and be among the frist to play Spore on the day of release.”
Pre-loading wasn’t a familiar term to me, but being ‘frist’ (sic) did sound like fun (whee, a late night Spore session!) I clicked on the link called ‘What is pre-loading?” And at the very bottom of the page I was informed that…
“Preloading will not be available for the Spore Galactic Edition.”
Typos make yoo look a little dumb, but they happen. But making a promise you can’t deliver upon? That’s the kind of thing that sours people on your brand forever. If this game is half as good as it looks, US corporate productivity make well take a hit in Q4… but to date EA and the game designers haven’t done themselves any favors with their marketing strategy and execution.
